The Full Story

First founded in the fall of 1983 as Mystic Hockey Club, our club has been a touring club for 41 years. It is the longest-running high school touring club in the USA. Founder, Phil Danaher, a USA Men’s National Team player, took the club to play in open tournaments nationwide and against collegiate teams during their spring season events.

In 1998, Mystic Hockey Club relocated to the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. Mystic started with just a few players in PA, and as a new club, we concentrated on developing players from within and growing together.

In 2018, the club rebranded itself as Phoenix Performance Academy (PPA) to better align with its core values of player development. In 2023, Phil retired from coaching, passing the baton to Caitlyn Rinker. Rinker, a key player in several championship squads during Mystic's resurgence in the Lehigh Valley, assumed the Director of Coaching. Her appointment further solidified the club's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering growth.

As of 2024, the club has nurtured over 650 players who have advanced to play in college at nearly every Division I program, more than half of the Division II teams, and over 60 Division III colleges. PPA is a fiercely competitive program at every available event, making it an exciting prospect for your child. However, it also provides a nurturing environment for every player who is eager to learn and grow, with the potential to reach the collegiate level.
